Newsletter of the Whirl-A-Ways Square Dance Club
www.whirl-a-ways.com

March Newsletter will be Monday,  February 27.  I would appreciate reports from the Hall delegates, Area Delegates, caller, cuers, President, Vice President and any other committees that have been formed by that date. It would be nice if I could get these reports from you without having to remind you.  If you have any news about an illness of one of our members or another member of the dance community, I would also like to have that information.    You can e-mail the information to me: write it on a piece of paper and give it to me at a dance or  marilyn42howard@yahoo.com  .  Sometimes I am given information verbally at a dance.  If I’m not where I can write it down or if you don’t write it down, I will probably forget what you tell me.  Please remember if YOU don’t tell me about it, it won’t be in the newsletter . Thank you for your help with this.  Also,  you can read the newsletter on our website, that address is:  www.whirl-a-ways.com     Marilyn Howard, Communications Coordinator

Hall (ESDC) News
Emerald Square Dance Center, Meeting Jan. 9, 2012
New Officer Installation and these notes:
1. Used clothing to go to Mid Winter Festival  will be tagged/bagged at 10 AM on Saturday, Jan 14th.  Help is needed.  Just show up.  The committee will be very happy to see you.
2. If you can take a couple of bags to Mid Winter Festival, please let Gloria Gardner know.
3. Lights have been left on in the building.  Every club needs to follow  the list provided especially the last minute  de-tails on closing the building.
4. There will be a meeting after Mid Winter to sort through the Christmas decorations and repack those we want to       keep.   Watch for an announcement.
5. Boots and Sandals has applied for a grant to help repair their building in Cottage Grove.  They need to provide a his-tory of  the club and its activities in the area.  If you have a memory to share about the hall or the club, e-mail it to Dennis  Chapman  dfcfarm@hotmail.com
6. Rental Committee Report:  The following recap of the plan was submitted to the ESDC.
Fees for non dancing events, sponsored by individual members such as birthdays, anniversaries, memorials, etc.
These fees will not be used for any event where participants or attendees are charged a fee, or dancing is promoted.
*Note: The leasee must be an active member of one of the following clubs:  (The report did not include all clubs and needs to be updated or this line revised so I'll not list all the clubs.)
These fees apply only to Hall A:  $50 for 4 hours. An additional $10. per hour after 4 hours.  Fee time starts when the doors are unlocked for entry and ends when the doors are closed and locked at the end of the event.
This reduced fee is provided as a service to our membership and may be amended or discontinued at any time by our board of directors at any scheduled meeting.
(John Pape suggested that if the spouse of an active square dancer dies, the Hall be provided at no charge for a memo-rial service.) Carolyn Pape, Delegate

General Square Dance Info.
I was going through some of my square dance material when I came across the following except from a 1997 Parade magazine article. I hope you will distribute this on your email network because occasionally we all need some positive reinforcement about our dance activity. Gary Smith

With its spins, turns, and arm and leg movements, square dancing can be as good as any other regular exercise activity--and it's not competitive, so everyone who participates is a winner. Square dancing provides the health benefits of walking, the mental stimulation of a chess game and the fun of moving to music, all rolled into one, just like an aerobic workout.--Parade magazine March 30, 1997.
